What are EDC's?
- Created: 20 August 2014
Last month we spoke about plastics and their hazards, this month we continue on and will discuss this again. Plastics are EDC’s.
What are EDCs? They are Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals.
We come into contact with these through a wide variety of ways and means. Plastics are on eof these. The chemicals that are sprayed on our commonly grown foods are also laden with EDCs.
Studies have been undertaken and recent findings have associated a wide variety of health problems associated with EDCs. These health problems are
- Non descended testes in young males
- Breast cancer in women
- Prostrate cancer in men
- Developmental effects on the nervous system in children
- ADD and ADH in children
- Thyroid cancer
- Infertility or reduced fertility
- Learning and memory difficulties
- Adult onset diabetes
- Cardio vascular disease
One of the most common culprits are BPAs as discussed last week. The highest sources of BPA are found in plastic water bottles, tooth sealants, plastic milk bottles, canned food, fizzy drink cans on the inner linings, Plastic microwavable plates, babies toys, babies dummies and toddler sipper cups.
PVCs are other offenders, where do we find these? They are found in processed food packaging, hoses, raincoats, shower curtains, vinyl floor and wall coverings, toys, lubricants and adhesives, detergents, beauty products and cosmetics.
